Sage, Sade, Promises

Promises is a quiet alchemy in Sade’s catalog, a record that is not everyones go to, but  somehow it deepens everything around it. Released in 1985, it followed the mainstream commercial triumph of Diamond Life, but where that sparkled immediacy, Promises retreated into shadow, smoke, and space. It is the most esoteric of the bands work, intimate and elusive, filled with resolve and half-lit bedrooms late at night. The production is spare and restrained, giving Sade's voice the space to stretch, twist, and breathe. “Fear” and “Tar Baby” drift beyond pop structures into something closer to spells,  rhythm and breath circling a personal loss, forgotten memories, and feminine resilience. We found warmth in this release, Promises is a Sade album that reveals itself slowly, on late nights and long drives, the look someone gives you when they know you. A coded message from those who choose to linger and drift.

Burning real sage, or smudging, is a tradition performed for centuries by many, many cultures. Smudging a space, or even oneself, has many benefits, not only cleansing  negative energies, but welcoming positive energies. 

The ONLY ingredients in these incense sticks are ground sage (a mixture of white and common sage), makko (an inner bark that works like charcoal to keep everything burning), and acacia gum mixed with water for binding. This "mix" is layered onto raw untreated bamboo sticks.

Each stick is made by grinding the herbs, flowers, and spices into a powder and then dipping the sticks in resin, rolling the ground herb onto the stick, and then sun-drying.

Packaged with eco-friendly handmade Lokta paper, made from the Lokta bush.  The bush is a renewable resource with the ability to regenerate within six years.
